The Democratic People’s Congress (DPC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency immediately to revive, revamp and overhaul the economy with a view to strengthening the naira.
The party in a statement issued by its national chairman, yesterday in Abuja, Rev. Olusegun Peters, said his constant blame of the Goodluck Jonathan’s regime for the woes of the country is untenable. He said the electorate voted him in as President to redirect the ship of theNigeria state to the path of rectitude and prosperity, not endless complaints, adding that he should justify the confidence reposed in him by speedily fulfilling his campaign promises.
“Buhari should sit down and brainstorm with his economic team to chart a way forward. It is time to build Nigeria of our dream. It is time to lead by example and show compassion to the longsuffering masses who yearn for change,” he added.
He said that it was time the federal government formulated financial and monetary policies that will strengthen the naira, yield foreign currencies, promote export and accelerate small and medium scale enterprises.
He raised alarm over the cash crunch, inflation, unemployment, poverty and crime in the country as a result of the fiscal policies of the CBN in particular and the nation’s economic managers.
