The Borno command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday, said it arrested a suspect for allegedly defrauding 9000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), under the guise of supplying food items to them.
The state commandant of NSCDC, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, told newsmen that the suspect was arrested in Mairi area in the state capital after collecting the sum of N27million from the IDPs.
Ibrahim said the suspects, Bukar Ladan, aged 50, was apprehended following intelligence report from the men of the agency.
The suspect confessed to have collected N300 each from 9, 000 IDPs currently taking refuge in different camps in the state capital.
“Our men found out that some of the women in the IDP camps were grumbling that they have paid thier monies but no food was supplied to them as promised.
“It is very unfortunate that some people will go to this length and defraud this people who had suffered great trauma in the hands of Boko Haram insurgency.
“After going to the man’s house, we discovered that he did not have anything worth N10, 000.
“We don’t know what he is using the money for, but we are still investigating him.”
