Cuban, American embassies to host monarch
YORUBA’S foremost traditional ruler, the Ooni of Ife, Oba AdeyeyeEniitan Ogunlusi is billed to meet President Muhammadu Buhari today at the State House .
According to the Director of Media and Publicity Affairs at the Ooni’s palace, Comrade Moses Olafare, the Ooni’s visit will avail him the opportunity to express his gratitude to the President over his role in his installation as the Ooni .
Olafare said: ‘’You will recall that the President was represented by Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and Kabiyesi, was appreciative of this sort of support.
The Ooni would also discuss certain issues with the president as they affect the Yorubaland , according to palace sources. These are expected to be the issues of road infrastructure and sundry matters.
According to Olafare, Oba Ogunlusi is pained by the fact that so many roads in the South West are dilapidated and need urgent attention.
Another issue that is germaine to his visit is the issue of littoral status of two oil-producing states that have not been granted the status, namely Ogun and Lagos States. He will also be drawing President Buhari’s attention to the abundant deposits of solid minerals in the South West. Ooni believes that despite the recess in oil prices, the two states deserve to be up graded in order to join others in the country, who are fellow oil producers.”
He continued: “Apart from meeting the president, the itinerary of the Ooni also includes a Diplomatic Dinner on Thursday, being organized for him by the Cuban Embassy, on behalf of the people of the country. Yorubas , have close cultural affinity with Cuba, and all Oonis are highly regarded by Cubans and their government.
The dinner is expected to be attended by diplomats, traditional rulers, captains of industries, top politicians and government officials’
On Friday, it will be the turn of the American Embassy to host the while he plays host to some socio-cultural groups form the South West.
The monarch will also be installed as chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka by weekend.
On Saturday, the Ooni’s train moves to Nsukka, in the South east where he will be installed the Chancellor of the University of Nigeria .
