Odigie-Oyegun Says Sacked Parastatals’ CEOs are Saboteurs

Barely 24 hours after they were relieved of their appointments as chief executive officers of Nigerian government-owned parastatals and agencies, ‎National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, on Tuesday said the sacked officers were sabotaging President Muhammadu Buhari’s change agenda.‎
The President had on Monday approved the sack of the 26 CEOs but the Secretary Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, was however silent on why they were sacked in a statement made available to the press.
Odigie-Oyegun who led some members of the party’s National Working Committee ‎to meet with Buhari “to raise some concerns‎”, said that “APC members were not concerned about the positions, we are concerned about the internal sabotage that is going on in a lot of the PDP-filled positions which are critical to our national growth and development.

“It is happening in INEC, it is happening in a lot of other institutions and that is what the concern of the party is, not necessarily taking over.

“We should take over and they should be people who believe in the change agenda, we have no apologies for that at all.”

The party chairman also justified the discrepancies so far noticed in the 2016 budget, saying the process of putting the document together was complicated.

“There is absolutely no confusion. This is a serious issue.

” I want you to please understand the complications that come from adjusting a structure from over 40 ministries to just over 20 ministries and the necessary adjustments of figures and movements of institutions that, that entails.

“It was very complicated, so it is natural that adjustments have to be made to the process and that is just is happening,” he explained.

Odigie-Oyegun who led the delegation, later told State House correspondents that they were in the Presidential Villa, Abuja to raise some concerns with the President.

“We just came to pay our respect to our President, and praise him on things that are going on. We also raised our concerns on one or two issues and altogether we had a very pleasant and rewarding meeting”.

The party’s national chairman however did not disclose the concerns raised at the meeting saying, “No, they were just internal party matters. I’m sure you are familiar with the political terrain and nothing different.”
