LAND TUSSLE: 12 Injured In Gombe Over Land Dispute

No fewer than 12 people have sustained various degrees of injury in a fracas between Gwani and Kinafa communities in Yamaltu Deba local government councils over farm land dispute.

A community leader in Kinafa, Mallam Abdu Kinafa, said 12 people were injured.

A staff of Specialist Hospital Gombe said 11 injured people were brought to the hospital, one was referred to the teaching hospital Gombe, while the remaining were receiving treatment.

In his account of the incident on his hospital bed, district head of Kinafa, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Inuwa, said the incident started last Monday over farm land approved for their community by the Upper Benue Development Authority(UBDA) and alleged that there was a disagreement between the two communities and the matter which was reported to the police was resolved in his community’s favour.

He said the following day, he went to his farm with his 12-year- old boy and youths numbering about 30 from the rival community attacked him with sticks and cutlasses, and later attacked his community leaving many injured.

In his reaction, the police public relations officer, DSP Fwaje Attajiri said, “ I have no details but I will soon call you and give you the details.”
